The brand, in partnership with the Canadian government wanted to use Google’s power and insight to support the emerging tech start up community and slow the brain drain to Silicon Valley. Mint came on board to help the brand build its own Canadian tech community with Google for StartUps.
Our insight was that in order to keep people home, we needed in inspire a sense of pride in keeping Canadian ideas in Canada and supported in doing so.
google first fridays
A thought leadership forum for startups where they could learn how to grow their business from inspirational tech leaders who grew their IP in Canada.
To help recruit the best and brightest startups, Mint worked with Google to sponsor Start Up Day at popular tech conference Elevate. We created a cafe that served as a 1:1 mentorship hub. There, young entrepreneurs were vetted by Google staff and the most promising were invited to join the Google for Startups community.
Since launch in August of 2019, we have successfully grown the Google for StartUps community to almost 1,000 entrepreneurs, with 80% attending a First Fridays event.
Attendance to our First Friday events has shown a steady increase since inception. And, following our virtual pivot to create an online forum due to COVID-19, we actually saw participation almost doubling vs our IRL activations.
